Many parents want
their children to become doctors. Unfortunately, in rural India
these dreams don't often come true. |
A merit seat in any Medical College costs a student approximately
Rs.3000 a month for 6 years. This pays for his fees, food and
accommodation so that he can pursue medical studies and become a
doctor. |
Rs.3000 a month is a lot of money for a poor farmer whose
livelihood depends entirely on the vacillations of nature. |
So, in rural India when a bright student of Class VII tells his
father that he wants to become a doctor. The poor father often has
no option other than to curb these fledgling desires of his child
because this Rs.3000 a month is something he cannot afford. |
Children in rural India want to become doctors too. They want to
bring the benefits of modern medicine and the marvels of state of
the art health care systems to their families, neighbors and their
villages. It is our duty to make sure these aspirations are given
the right environment to grow and take flight. |
